Meet Me in HKV – Maroš Čorba

- Where do you come from? What areas of law do you practice?
At the beginning of my practice, I worked as an associate in law firms with a general legal focus. This gave me extensive experience in various areas of law, which allowed me to gain a comprehensive view of legal issues and clients’ needs.
Later, I began to specialize in corporate law, and through gradual evolution, I have advanced to focus on M&A transactions, which I am dedicated to to this day.
After gaining experience in more traditional law firms, I explored a less conventional form of advocacy. For two years, I dedicated myself to providing legal counsel for startups right from their early stages.
At HKV, I mainly focus on M&A transactions, Banking & Finance and commercial litigation.
- What do you enjoy most about your work?
What I enjoy most about my work as a lawyer is the opportunity to impact our client’s business positively. Providing them with expert legal advice, supporting their business ventures, and guiding them through legal challenges brings me satisfaction. Additionally, working alongside a talented and dedicated team at our HKV law firm allows me to learn and grow in my profession continuously.
- What trends do you see in the development of your favourite area of law that you practice?
In the areas of law that I focus on (IP and M&A in particular), I note the current trends towards greater digitization and faster access to information.
What common misconception about lawyers do you think is the farthest from reality?
One common misconception about lawyers that I believe is farthest from reality is that lawyers focus solely on winning cases or being adversarial. I think the role of a lawyer extends beyond that. Lawyers serve as trusted advisors, problem-solvers, and business counselors for their clients. We aim to find practical and beneficial solutions that align with our client’s interests and laws.
- What do you like to do in your spare time?
I am passionate about engaging in various sports such as football, tennis, and skiing. Beyond physical activities, I find great pleasure in delving into the pages of a captivating book and cherish moments spent with my family and friends. Additionally, I seize opportunities to travel, exploring new destinations and cultures whenever time permits.
